Al Fresco 2008 Farm Tour

From 11:00 a.m. on Sunday July 27th you are invited to a self-drive tour of area farms. Maps will be available on the Courthouse lawn, along with a Chef's Gourmet Brunch beginning at 11 am. At each farm, staff and 4-H members will be on hand to take you around and answer your questions.

Type of Farm: Sheep Dairy

3 Corner Field Farm will have farm tours, milking parlor and cheesemaking area starting at each hour (11 - 4), and some cheese tasting, and also a ricotta-making demonstration. Visitors should be advised to wear shoes/boots that can be washed/disinfected.

Directions to the farm:
About 1 mile south of the village of Salem, at the intersection of County Route 64 and NY Route 22, take County Route 64 exactly 2.7 miles. We are on the right hand side. Please do NOT park in the driveway; park along the road.

Type of Farm: Dairy Farm & Bottling Plant

Battenkill Valley Creamery is a new business which will be processing and bottling fluid milk on the farm beginning in September 2007. There will be a tour of the processing plant.

Directions to the farm:
From the red light in Salem take Route 30 west for 3.5 miles. Turn left on Black Creek Road. Battenkill Valley Creamery is on the left.

Type of Farm: Sheep

At Common Threads Farm we will have sheep for viewing and a discussion about raising grass fed, Icelandic sheep for meat, wool, and milk production.

Directions to the Farm:
South of Salem on Rt. 22 take a left on county rte 64. Take the first left onto Perry hill road, and the third left onto Camden Valley Road (about 4 miles from Perry Hill turn) the farm is 0.8 miles on the left.

Type of Farm: Pastured Pigs and Chickens

We raise rare heritage breeds of pigs such as Gloucestershire Old Spots, Tamworths, and Large Blacks, outdoors on pasture, along with several hundred hens.

Directions to the Farm:
From Rte. 22, just north of the Burger Den restaurant, turn east onto Rte. 61. Drive up and over the hill. At bottom of hill is the steel deck bridge into the hamlet of Shushan. DO NOT cross the bridge. Instead, turn right onto Sutherland Road. Drive 1/3 mile to the yellow house on the left.

Type of Farm: Specialty Crops – Blueberries, Raspberries, Flowers

Gardenworks will be at the peak of blueberry season and the marketplace will be overflowing with local cheeses and food products. Visit our greenhouse and tour the art show in the barn gallery.

Directions to the Farm:
From State Route 22, Main Street in Salem, proceed to traffic light. Turn on to County Route 30 (by Stewarts) and travel exactly 5 miles to Gardenworks Farm Marketplace.

Type of Farm: Sweet corn, potatoes, maple syrup, vegetables, and flowers
Sixth generation farm with famous sweet corn, maple syrup, and potatoes. Our farm was featured on Bobby Flay’s Throwdown (Food Network) in Hattie’s-Fried Chicken episode. Stand open 9 am to 6 pm.

Directions to the farm:
One mile north of the junction of Rte 29 and Rte 22. (One mile south of village). Farm is on west side of Rte 22.
