Once again, the Salem Courthouse Community Center will be offering enjoyable learning opportunities for area students during the Winter Break from February 20 until February 24. Four programs will be available to different age groups. Mid-Winter Astronomy with Bill Frederick will be offered to students in grades 6 through 12 on Tuesday, February 21 and Thursday, February 23 from 10 am until noon with one evening observing session. Students will learn how to unwrap the mysteries of the winter sky and learn basic observation techniques using a telescope. Teen Yoga Basics for Beginners with Gail Bearup will be available on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24 from 2 until 3 pm. Learn relaxation techniques while strengthening the body and soothing the mind. Younger children in grades 1 through 5 may take advantage of Winter Clay Corner with Tara Hughes, Monday, February 20 through Friday, February 24 from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. During this one week workshop, students will learn clay techniques and work on specific projects. The final program offered, Making Lip Balm with Barbara Palulis of Pure-N-Simple Soaps, will provide students in grades 5 and up with the opportunity to make an assortment of popular lip balms. This workshop will be offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, February 21 through February23 from 1 to 3 pm. Space is limited and interested students should contact the CCC at 518-854-7053. There is a fee for 2 of the programs, Winter Clay ($60 for members/$70 for non-members) and Lip Balm ( $25 for members/$30 for non-members plus a $6 material fee) – there is no charge for the other 2 programs.
