Plans are being finalized for the 2013 Lunch, Learn and Play program at the Courthouse Community Center in Salem. As classes are winding down and children are looking forward to their summer vacation, the outstanding summer enrichment program offered at the CCC will be ready to greet students on Monday, July 1 at 11:30 am. The program is offered 5 days a week for 6 weeks and ends on Friday, August 9. The program accepts 120 students in grades K through 6 and is open to all children regardless of where they live. If parents can provide the transportation to get the children to the CCC, they are welcome to participate. Enrollment forms must be completed and are currently available at the CCC. There are still a few openings. If parents wish, their children can participate in an American Red Cross swim program at Lake Lauderdale and then be bused to the CCC at the end of the morning. There is no charge for the Lunch, Learn & Play portion of the day, but donations are much appreciated.. Children start their afternoon with a nutritious lunch offering healthy produce grown in the Courthouse Community Garden. Certified teachers, college interns, high school camp counselors and numerous volunteers oversee the children's activities each day. The program is organized by Herb Perkins, Courthouse Board Vice President and retired school administrator. |

The budget for 2013 is close to $25,000 and has been funded by grants from Stewart's Holiday Match, Walmart, the Charles R. Wood Foundation and the Glens Falls Foundation. Generous donations have been provided by WATRA, Holy Cross Church Altar Rosary Society, Salem Area Woman's Club, Eastern Star, Cargill, Salem's First Presbyterian Church Mission Fund, the Salem Rotary and a very generous contribution from the Shoppe Off Broadway thrift store. Two large events, an elementary school talent show and the recent Fashion and Film Festival also raised necessary funds. The CCC is looking forward to providing a safe and enjoyable summer program and thanks the many who are making it possible.
