POTTERY INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES

Bob Nopper the manager of the Courthouse Pottery Studio, operates Bear Pottery Studio in Hebron and also manages the Artisans Guild of North Main Street in Salem, N.Y.. He has been a studio potter and artist since 1997, and his work has been shown in regional galleries in New York and Southern New England. Bob has cultivated the Courthouse Pottery Studio, through his dedication to managing and teaching, into a wonderful learning environment for children
and adults.

Cail Clark is a Visual Arts and Education graduate of Bennington College. She has worked in the field of education for nearly 10 years. In the Bennington Public School System, Cail taught art to students of all ages, taught wheel throwing and hand building and we are very excited to welcome her to the studio staff.

Historic Salem Courthouse Classes & Workshops

Pottery WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS
Our hands-on workshops are small and instruction is individualized. Our instructors are accomplished potters and artists who love to teach. FREE

Clay Camp CCP41-10, grades 1-6 *
9 am-12 noon, July 13-16 Instructor: Eva Fitzgerald
This four day camp will be a great introduction to the pottery craft. Students will have hands on instruction in making unique pottery pieces. They will enjoy exploring their creativity turning mud to stone in the Courthouse
Max. 10 students, so please register early.

Clay Camp CCP42-10, grades 1-6 *
9 am-12 noon, August 10-13 Instructor: Bob Nopper
If you were on vacation for the earlier clay camp, here is another opportunity to learn the pottery craft .Students will have hands on instruction in making unique pottery pieces. It will be a fun week of turning mud into stone in the Pottery Studio.
Max. 10 students, so please register early.

Preschool Pottery POT43-10, ages 2-6*
Wednesdays 10 am-11:30am, July 21-August 25
Instructors: Eva Fitzgerald & Bob Nopper
This class is designed to get preschoolers working with clay to explore their creative imaginations. As the parent you can assist your child, or leave your child with the instructor to explore their creative independence.
Max. 10 students, so please register early.

ADULTS & TEENS

Open Studio POT45-10
Wednesdays 1-4 pm, July 21-August 25
$90 members, $100 nonmembers
Clay $ 10- 25lbs
Open Studio is great for practicing pottery skills at your own pace. You can use the studio equipment and explore your talents. Great for those who need studio time but don’t have space for a home studio. Procedures are supervised by people with pottery experience.

Pottery with Panache POT44-10
Wednesdays 6:30-9:30 pm, July 21-August 25
$160 members - $170 non members
Instructor: Bob Nopper
Explore the techniques that will allow you to create sculptural, decorative and/or functional pottery. You will practice making wonderful bowls, plates, vessels, handles, and lids with our individualized instruction. Let us inspire you to reach a new level of your ceramic ability. Let your imagination be your guide when using your new skills to make unique creations.

Young People's Workshops

Salem Courthouse Mobile Project * ages 9 +
Instructors: SAW staff
July 12-16, 10 am-noon
Young artists will work with SAW staff to construct a large scale mobile composed of found object sculptures, each made by an individual child. The finished mobile will be displayed in the Historic Salem Courthouse, joining the Our Town mural made by last year’s
participants.

Salem Courthouse Jail Project * ages 12+
Instructors: SAW staff
August 16-20, 1 pm-4 pm
Participants will learn the history of the Old Washington County Jail and then will use this history and other evidence left behind by past occupants of the jail to design a work of art, which will be installed in one or more of the jail cells.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

This two-part workshop is geared toward understanding the dynamics of digital photography, the camera, and how we see the world around us. Once this is accomplished, we will delve into the cyber world of post-production photo shopping to enhance your work. We will “shoot ‘til you drop” but you will have fun!
Materials to bring: digital camera (with manual), notebook for note taking, and laptop (optional but recommended) with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 or higher.


Ceramics Out of the Earth & into the Fire (part 1)
Instructors: Bob Nopper and Jordan Becker
July 8-11, 9 am-4 pm
$200 + $50 material fee
This workshop includes three methods of working with clay: throwing on the wheel, hand building, and making sculpture. There will be demonstrations every morning and time for students to work independently in the afternoons on their own projects. The instructors will lead the class in discussions about the relationship between function, aesthetics, and the properties of clay. Students who have their own clay tools are urged to bring them, but basic tools are available for those who do not have them. Please bring overalls or wear clothes that can get dirty. This workshop is a S.A.W. program that will be held at the Courthouse Community Center’s pottery studio so to register please call S.A.W. at 518-854-7674. Calling All Drivers – 50 & older
AARP Defensive Driving
Instructor: Don Brooks
August 27, 8:30 am-5 pm
$12 AARP member, $14 nonmember
This one day program will reduce points on your driver’s license and reduce your auto insurance by 10%. Attendance is required at entire session to receive deductions. There will be a break for lunch. Class is limited so please register early by calling 518-854-7053.


Early A.M. Stretch WS 46-10
Instructor: Gail Bearup
Wednesdays, June 30-August 4, 7:30 am-8:30 am
$26 members, $36 nonmembers Single class: $10
Start your summer day with a gentle salutation to the sun and stretch out the body for the day ahead. This gentle stretch class will increase your energy through guided breathing exercises and gentle yoga poses. Please bring a yoga mat and be sure to wear very comfortable clothing.

If you cancel your enrollment prior to the first session you will be issued a credit towards another current workshop. If CCC cancels a workshop you will be issued a full refund. We make every attempt to reschedule individual classes that are canceled due to circumstances beyond our control.
Our snow policy follows the Salem Central School cancellations and students will be notified of rescheduled date.
