We’re showcasing works from Ellie Valentine’s collection- Musical World.
From the collection of Ellie Valentine, Cambridge, NY
Ellie has enjoyed a career administering international academic exchanges and international development projects since 1978. She first traveled to Poland as a student in 1977 where she learned of the impressive graphic arts traditions in Poland, especially poster art. From the mid-1990s she implemented USAID projects in Ukraine, Armenia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, Guatemala, Morocco, Niger, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan before settling in Cambridge in her retirement 2025. In her “down time” while living abroad, she visited many galleries, and met many local artists visiting their studios. She volunteered in the organizing committee of the “Great Ukrainian Women Artists” exhibitions organized by the International Women’s Club of Kyiv (1994-96). In 2004 she was a sponsor of the exhibit of Polish women artists in Berlin, "Europe is a Woman." In 2009 she organized an exhibit in Kyiv of her Pakistan arts and crafts collection as a fund-raiser for Pakistani flood relief. She now seeks to share the works she has collected with the broader Washington Country community.
The works on exhibit in "Musical World" at the Salem Courthouse this March 2026 will feature works from Poland, Ukraine, Armenia, and Cuba.
Show opens March 13th and runs through April 25th. Gallery is open prior to all HSC Community Center events and by appointment: greathall@salemcourthouse.org
